To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the relations between the Netherlands and Buthan, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Delhi asked me to design a festive pin to be offered to officials during a special event in Buthan.
I chose the color Orange which both country share (in the Buthanese flag and as national color for the Netherlands). I symbolized the level of water and wanted to highlight the contrast between the Netherlands with flat land of which a part is below sea level and Buthan which is a highly mountanous country in the eastern Himalayas (up to more than 7.500 meters above sea level).
For each country I chose a traditional architectural element, the wind mill in the Netherlands and a dzhong in Buthan.
